UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE
poster
Universal Healthcare is a hot topic during political debates, as well as, round table discussions. It is a topic that is important regardless of class status or ethnicity. I was able to use this contemporary issue with a historic piece of design from the Art Nouveau era. Eugene Grasset’s 1894 exhibition poster provided the perfect inspiration for this purpose. The original piece depicts a peaceful looking woman holding a plant in one hand, while her other hand holds a pencil and book. The writing around the image is advertising an art exhibition for Eugene Grasset. In my contemporary design, the woman now looks sickly and in need of medical attention. The medical caduceus has replaced the plant as the snakes come alive entangling themselves around the woman and even biting her finger. She now holds her medical records that are stamped with a refusal for healthcare. In keeping with the same font, the writing now translates to, “Universal Healthcare for All Citizens.”
